CAAC (Campus Academic Advisory Committee)

The Legalese 

CAAC Purpose (BQB Local)

A Campus Academic Advisory Council (CAAC) shall be established on each campus to assist the principal. The council shall meet for the purpose of implementing planning processes and site-based decision making in accordance with Board policy and administrative procedures and shall be chaired by the principal.  

CAAC Term Limits: Representatives shall serve staggered three-year terms and shall be limited to two consecutive terms on the team. After the initial election or selection, representatives shall draw lots, within each representative category, to determine the length of initial terms.  

The council shall serve primarily in an advisory or consultative manner regarding:

  • The development, review, and revision of the campus [improvement] plan,
  • The review of major campus programs,
  • The campus budget,
  • The review of student performance and campus [improvement] plan progress,
  • The review of drop-out and completion rate information [see BQA(LEGAL)], (TEC §11.255) and
  • Opinions related to campus waivers.

The council shall:

  • Approve staff development portions of the campus [improvement] plan, (TEC §11.253(e))
  • Determine the manner in which performance incentives shall be used, (TEC §39.264 (a), §21.357(c)) and
  • Hold an annual public meeting after campus accountability ratings have been received. (TEC §11.253(g))

 

CAAC Membership Roles

  • Parents: Parents/guardians of enrolled KLMS students.
  • Community Members: must reside in PfISD boundaries but do not have to be parent/guardian of an enrolled student.
  • Business Representatives: no residency requirements for individual or business.
  • Professional staff - teaching: goal is for one teacher per department.
  • Professional staff - non teaching: can be no more than 1/3 of the campus staff on the committee.

 

What Does the Committee Discuss?

September / October 

  • Draw term limits for new members/ review terms of returning members
  • Review the public presentation 
  • Familiarize the CAAC with the CIP for current school year
  • Review the current school year budget
  • Review changes for the current school year

November 

  • November quarterly review of CIP
  • Review STAR 360 BOY results

January 

  • January quarterly review of CIP
  • Review transition events
  • Review STAR 360 MOY and STAAR Interim results

March 

  • March quarterly review of CIP
  • Start comprehensive needs assessment for 23-24 CIP
  • Review program and/or staffing changes

May

  • June quarterly review of CIP
  • Review and approve draft of CIP for next school year  
  • Review proposed budget for next school year
  • Review and approve a professional development plan for the next school year
