Attendance Information
Absences and Attendance
Regular school attendance is essential for a student to make the most of his or her education – to benefit from teacher-led and school activities, to build on the previous day’s learning, and to grow as an individual. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of the instructional materials; therefore, the parent and student should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences.
If your student will not be at school or you need to send a note for any absence, please notify Attendance by emailing: KLMS.Attendance@pfisd.net.
Signing Your Student Out
If your student needs to leave campus after the school day has officially started, you will need to check them out in the front office; for your student’s safety, please be prepared to show your photo ID. Please fill out the student sign out log completely, including your student’s ID#, student name, your signature, time out and reason. If your student returns to campus the same day, they will sign back in on the same page. You are welcome to walk your student in when they return, but it is not necessary. Please keep in mind that the sign out/in log does not qualify as a parent note.
Students signed out after 8:20 am or before 3:00 pm will incur an absence for their time off campus.
If you send a friend or family member to pick up your student, the person must be on your student’s emergency contact list, please contact our registrar, Angelica Castro (Angelica.Castro@pfisd.net), to make any needed adjustments to your emergency contact list. Electronic communication must come from the email address we have on file for your student and include the following information – student name, birthdate of student, person’s name to be added and their contact phone number.
Skyward Parent Portal
If you feel your student has received an absence that is a mistake, please contact the supervising teacher for that class period/time. The teacher will then contact the attendance office with a correction or explain why the student was marked absent. This request must be made within 1 week of the absence that you are inquiring about because we are required to lock attendance for submission to the State. If your student was on a school-related event and the classroom teacher marked them absent, you should speak with the event teacher to correct the absence. Essentially, the person who was with the student is the only person that can mark the student present.
You can determine which period has the absence by logging on to Skyward Parent Portal and looking on the absences tile This will show you the date and which period the absence occurred. It also shows you the code and what the code means.
