Clubs & Organizations
Finding your place at KLMS
At Kelly Lane Middle School, we believe that extracurricular activities are an important part of a student's education. We offer a variety of clubs and organizations to help students explore their interests, develop new skills, and make new friends.
All students participate in a Fridau club that occurs during Catapult time. There are some organizations that meet beyond that club time, they are listed below:
Knights Extra-Curricular Activities
-
Athletics - 7th and 8th grade students may enroll in athletics. At each grade there are teams for girls and boys, teams with ** next to them mean there are less than two teams per gender per grade. Our competition is the six other middle schools in Pflugerville ISD. For sports that do not have both a boys and a girls team, we allow students of either gender to play. For example, football is managed by the boys coaching staff, but girls are allowed to play. For your convenience, we have noted which sports are not offered for both boys (B) and girls (G). There are tryouts for all sports except football; students who do not make the team remain in the athletics class. Practices for the team are held before school (7th grade) and after school (8th grade). Students on the team should expect to dedicate time outside of the school day for practice and competition.
Fall Sports: Football (B), Volleyball (G), Basketball starts (B & G), Cross Country (B & G)
Spring Sports: Basketball ends (B & G), Track & Field** (B & G), Soccer** (B & G), Golf** (B & G)
*Band - We have four bands: beginners, wind ensemble, symphonic, and honors band. Students are placed in a band by the Directors based on their performance during class and extra-curricular competition. The band participates in a football game, compete in multiple arenas, and participates in community involvement and spirit activities at KLMS and nearby elementary schools. Students should expect time commitments outside of class for practice and competition.
Cheerleading - We have one 7th and 8th grade cheerleading team. The cheerleaders act as ambassadors and help with several school activities such as welcoming teachers back, helping with Open House as guides, and helping 6th grade students during their visits and camp. The cheerleaders perform at spirit assemblies and sports competitions (football, volleyball, and basketball). Tryouts for the team are generally in the middle of the spring semester for the following year.
*Choir - We have several choirs that practice during the school day. Students are placed in a choir by the Director based on their performance during class and extra-curricular competition. The choir competes in multiple arenas and participates in community involvement and spirit activities at KLMS and nearby elementary schools. Students should expect time commitments outside of class for practice and competition.
Kelly Lane Honor Society - Members are invited if they meet the qualifications established by the Honor Society advisors. Eligible 7th and 8th grade students are invited to complete an application packet if they meet the criteria, see the Honor Society page for more information about selection criteria.
*Theatre - We have three levels of theatre classes. We compete in the UIL One Act Play at the end of the fall semester and produce a musical in the spring semester. All students can audition for these productions, even if they are not in the class. Students competing in the One Act Play or participating in the musical should expect to dedicate time outside of the school day for rehearsal and performances. The theatre students also have other performances throughout the school year.
UIL Academics - Kelly Lane participates in the district invitational practice meet and official district meet. Interested students should check Google classroom for their grade to learn more about events and contact information for the coaches.
* Activities that have a class during the students' schedule in addition to extra-curricular opportunities.
